WHAT IS GRADING?

Grading is simply size increments +/- that gets applied once the original pattern and sample is approved. Let’s give you an elaborate example: Jenny gave her factory a size Medium tee shirt tech-pack to create a tee shirt pattern for which she wants to mass-produce later. Once the pattern is made and approved, she has the factory to apply grading starting from size XS all the way to 2XL (The sizing needed or requested by designers Varies based on their demographic target market).

The pattern then gets digitized and a CAD like system is used to apply the appropriate measurements. This process is called grading.

It is mandatory for all factories on AVmade use standard contemporary market size chart unless requested otherwise which is rare as the global fashion industry follows the same rule of thumb. Once the factory applyied the requested size varaition, which means now the part of the grading for the tee shirt is now in place and one step closer into going to production.

HOW MUCH DOES GRADING COST?

The price for grading can range anywhere from $95 for a very basic garment, and it goes up to $175-350+ for things that are complex like gowns etc… But for the most standard types of garments on the market such as athletic wear and casual wear, it should not cost more than $95 -$125. Normally a much higher price point is demanded from companies who we consider as a ‘one-trick pony’.

Most small businesses tend to focus on providing a single service or two which means for every transaction they need to have a much higher margin in order to run and operate their business. Unfortunately, a lack of diversity in service and trade capability will result in price hyperinflation that you the customer have to burden. Another one of the perks AVmade provides is that almost all factories on our platform waive this fee.
